Our church passed out a devotional book for us to use during the Lent Season. Today was the last one. All the devotionals were written by people from three local churches, First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and Christ our Redeemer Catholic Church all located in Niceville. I love it when churches work together. I think God does too. Anyway, today's was so good I want to share it with all of you.Do Unto Others
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you....Matthew 7:12 (NIV)
I was told that my great-great grandmother kept a spotless home. One day when her grandon went to visit her he said, "Grandmother, why do you always look at my feet before you look at my face?" She was apparently concerned that he might muddy up her floor.
Often in our busy lives we become so focused on getting the job done and accomplishing all the things on our "to do" list, that we neglect to smile, to touch or to say an encouraging word. We may not realize the effect this has on others. Even casual contacts present the opportunity to lift someone's spirit. We might be missing opportunities God is giving us to share His love. Our closest relationships might even suffer because we are cramming too many activities into our days or placing too much importance on busywork.
This year let's vow to nurture the relationships God has given us. Let's not be so absorbed in ourselves and our routine that we forget to look around to see a hurting heart, a lonely life, someone who needs the encouragement or support we can offer.
Prayer: O God, You have shown us mercy, grace, and compassion in such a faithful way. Help us to do the same for others. Amen
